Being one of the eight B vitamins, vitamin B-12 is essential to normal blood formation, growth, and normal neural function. It is water soluble and this implies that our body cannot store it in large quantity if in excess. This also means that we are required to get it daily from our food or supplements.
As the name implies, vitamin B-12 injection is the injection of either naturally occurring or synthesized types of this vitamin into the body. The injection delivers either hydroxocobalamin or cyanocobalamin to the body.
Some symptoms associated with vitamin B-12 deficiency include fatigue, incontinence (the inability to control urine or bowel emptying), muscle stiffness, low blood pressure, weakness of the muscles, anemia, high homocysteine levels, memory failure, depression, smooth tongue, numbness, vision loss, constipation, loss of appetite, pale skin, etc.
It is worthy of note that these symptoms are also associated with other health conditions and not exclusive to vitamin B-12 deficiency. This is why it is advised that you meet a physician and avoid self-medication.
There are so many health conditions and man-made factors that can lead to vitamin B-12 deficiency some of which are heavy drinking, pernicious anemia, Graves’ disease, celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, and atrophic gastritis, surgery that removed some part of the stomach or small intestine, lack of balanced diets, etc.
